Driven by green development and energy efficiency optimization, Beichen District of Tianjin has been steadily promoting the transformation of coal-fired boilers since 2012. By the end of 2021, the natural gas conversion of 21 coal-fired heating stations in the district was successfully completed, and the heating map covered 13.76 million square meters and 162,000 households. Among them, Linfa Heating Co., Ltd., as the finale of Beichen District’s coal-to-fuel conversion, joined hands with Kaiquan to open the final chapter of the green transformation of regional heating.

Project Overview

Tianjin Beichen Linfa Heating Co., Ltd. is located in Shuangjie Town, Beichen. It has a wide service network and a heating area of ​​2.1 million square meters. It covers more than 20,000 residential users, more than 1,500 commercial entities, as well as Tianjin No. 92 Middle School and four kindergartens. This renovation project is based on the original heating primary network transmission and distribution system, and has carried out a comprehensive and detailed upgrade of the boiler room and its auxiliary equipment.

The core transformation content focuses on the replacement of boiler systems. The original coal-fired hot water boilers and their ancillary equipment were successfully dismantled, including one 80t/h and two 40t/h coal-fired boilers, as well as desulfurization and dust removal facilities.
They were replaced by three advanced 65t/h gas hot water boilers, and environmental protection facilities such as low-nitrogen burners were installed. The heating service scope after the transformation is still extensive, mainly providing stable and reliable heating guarantees for the surrounding residential areas such as Bilongyuan, Julongyuan, Yulongyuan, Wanyuanxingcheng, and Longdeyuan.

Solution

Faced with the complexity and variability of heating demand, especially the high requirements for heating efficiency and flexibility during the early and late cold periods, the project team faced major challenges.
Among them, how to accurately control the operation of gas boilers and water pumps to achieve optimal energy efficiency has become a key issue that needs to be solved urgently.

01. Selection of circulating pumps for a network

2 large pumps: JNS400-50, flow rate: 1620m³/h;
Head: 23m, matching inverter power 132kW/unit;
1 small pump: JNS300-64,
Flow rate: 810m³/h
Head: 23.5m, matching inverter power 75kW/unit.

02. Pump flow adjustment

Flow rate 2430~3240m³/h, open 2 large pumps;
Flow rate 1620~2420m³/h, open 1 large pump and 1 small pump;
Flow rate 810~1620m³/h, open 1 large pump.

01 Intelligent Control

Adopt intelligent control system to realize flexible switching between manual and automatic modes. The system has constant flow control function and seamlessly connects with the central control room through Modbus-485 interface to realize remote monitoring and adjustment. The closed-loop regulation mechanism ensures that the water pump automatically adjusts the operating state according to the actual flow demand and always operates in the high-efficiency range.

02 Fault warning and emergency response

The system has a built-in fault warning function. When the preferred water pump fails, the suboptimal water pump is automatically started and an alarm signal is immediately issued to ensure uninterrupted heating service. The optimal start-up strategy is based on the principle of minimizing water pump power, which further improves the energy efficiency level.

Application effect

Since the project was put into operation, it has been running stably for 2 years, with energy saving efficiency up to 40%. It not only realizes the intelligent and unattended management of the heating system, but also brings significant economic benefits to customers. The operating cost is saved by 620,000 yuan each heating season.
